How do you import XD files into Figma?
If you're a designer trying to switch from Adobe XD to Figma like me, because literally nobody wants to hire XD designers then you might have at some point tried to see if XD files are portable to Figma. Obviously they don't. You're probably looking at this error right now, but not to worry, I know some tricks.
How do you import XD files into Figma?
You use the convertify plugin. Yeah, so it turns out the Figma community are a bunch of cool people and you can just simply upload your XD file and the plugin will convert it automatically.
Bad news is that as with everything good in life it's not entirely free. At the time I'm writing this I think you have a limited number of available conversions and some other feature limitations. The hypermatic guys have a lot of other cool plugins too but they want about $70 per month to use all of them and I'm really not going to pay that much money. Another paid tool is magicul so you might want to be looking into that website too.
Anyway, assuming you don't want to spend money on conversions we're getting at the second most important question of this post:
How do you import XD files into Figma for FREE?
Well, you can't. But you could manually move layers from Adobe XD to Figma. Just copy and paste content from one editor to another. SVG's should be working fine, with more complex stuff you might end up having issues because they'll get converted to PNG's.
BUT if you manually export all adobe layers to SVG and then import them all into Figma you should be fine.
Also other stuff that doesn't cross-work are effects, transparencies, shadows, overlays. So keep that in mind.
Personally, I would just use the convertify plugin with the free version. It works and as long as you are fine with some of the feature limitations and the number of conversion you are allowed to do it should be more than enough.
So, in short: you either use a Figma plugin which is free at the moment or you manually export layers from Adobe XD to SVG and then into Figma one by one.
First alternative is fast but by the time you're reading this might be either really limited or entirely not free, second alternative takes a lot more time but it's free to do. I hope it helped.
