Can you import PDF into Figma?

Figma can be incredibly helpful in creating detailed designs for digital products and applications. Many UI/UX designers use the software to create logos, icons, and other elements of their design projects. But can you import PDFs into Figma? Unfortunately, the answer is no – at least not directly.

Can you import PDF into Figma?

Figma only allows users to upload PNG, JPG and SVG images. PDF is not currently supported.

That means if you have a PDF already created that you want to work with in Figma, you first need to convert it into an image file format such as PNG or JPG before being able to upload it.

You can use various programs like Adobe Acrobat or Inkscape for the conversion task.

Once the PDF has been converted into an image file (eg: .jpeg), then this image can be imported into Figma’s interface for further editing or manipulating which is great for quick prototyping tasks.

Still there are some limitations when using this kind of workflow as certain elements from the original PDF like vector paths might be lost after exporting to an image format — so functionally there will usually be less options when working with a converted asset versus including a natively imported vector-based asset like SVG ones within your Figma projects.

Conclusion

To summarize– although you cannot directly import PDFs into Figma — it still is possible to get around it by converting the existing asset into an image format that Figma supports, which although causes some drawbacks should still let designers make quick prototypes out of their existing documents surprisingly fast on back-end!
