How do I add Google fonts to Figma?

Figma has a large library of fonts by default, most of them from Google. But maybe you're looking to add a specific Google font or a custom font to Figma and you can't seem to figure out how.

How do I add Google fonts to Figma?

There's two things to consider when installing new fonts: one is that if you're using the desktop app you don't really need to do anything besides installing the actual font on the windows and two - you need to install a font client if you want to add Google fonts for the Figma web version.

Follow my video tutorial or see my detailed step by step instructions below:

To download the figma fonts installer click this link. Again, you don't need to install it if you're already using the Figma windows client.

After the optional step above is done go to google fonts library and pick your font family and download it. You also have options to install different font weights, so be sure to scroll down the page and tick those settings too.

Once the download has finished you can open the zip files and click on the install button for each individual font weight. In my case I only had once weight downloaded.

After it's done installing you can start your Figma design. Both the desktop version and the web version should have the google font installed and ready to be used.

Conclusion

To summarize, if you're looking to install new Google fonts on Figma and you have the desktop version installed you don't need to do anything except installing the font in windows. On the other hand if you're using the web client of Figma you need to run an installer before being able to add your windows fonts. It's a really small executable which shouldn't take time to install.
