How do I convert Figma to AI / Adobe Illustrator?

Adobe Illustrator is still widely used by a lot of designers. Most of them use it to design logos and illustrations that require lots of vectors and usually it was meant to be a tool for digital artists compared to Figma which is mostly used by  UI/UX designers that only do web pages and apps.

How do I convert Figma to AI / Adobe Illustrator?

You can't really convert Figma layers or files to AI or EPS, the two extensions Adobe Illustrator works with but you can export the files as SVGs and import them into Illustrator.

It works relatively fine except for the fact that you won't be able to get the text recognized, everything is going to be vectorized, so it's something to keep in mind. See my example below:

Another free alternative is to use an online convertor such as convertio. Unfortunately it doesn't always work. You can also try another convertor called filestar which lets you convert 10 files per month, after which you'll have to purchase a subscription.

But for all intents and purposes if you're looking to get a simple frame from Figma to Illustrator I would just export it as SVG and open it in Adobe. It works well enough and it's usable.

Now that Adobe bought Figma they might create cross compatible files or at least let you export AI files but I wouldn't hold my breath. Their other software Adobe XD is their own tool and still to this day doesn't really let you upload AI files nor export them.

Conclusion

So in short, you cannot directly export figma files to ai from within the app. You can either export layers as SVG vectors or you can use free or paid online convertors which work to a certain degree
