How Did Figma Get Started?

Figma was founded in 2012 by a trio of passionate designers who had a vision to change the way we design. They wanted to create a tool that could be used by anyone, regardless of experience. And that’s exactly what they did.

How Did Figma Get Started?

The idea for Figma came about when one of the founders , Dylan Field, was a student at Stanford University. He was frustrated with the existing design tools, which required a lot of technical know-how and weren’t very user-friendly. He wanted to create something that could be used by anyone, regardless of their design skills.

At the same time, Dylan was also working on his own projects, which included creating a web-based design tool that could be used on any device - this is when the idea for Figma was born.

Dylan, along with his two cofounders: Evan Wallace and John Schlemmer, decided to pursue their vision and launch Figma. They were soon joined by a team of passionate engineers and designers who shared their vision.

The trio began working on the project in 2012 and officially launched the first version of Figma in the summer of 2013. Since then, Figma has grown exponentially, with milions of users around the world.
