Why Can’t I Open a Figma File?
If you’ve been using Figma to create designs, you may have run into issues where you couldn't open specific files.
While Figma does support several different file types, some of them can’t be opened in the Figma App.
Why Can’t I Open a Figma File?
Figma supports .fig, .png, .jpg, and .svg files which are all popular formats for web and graphic design. However, if your file is not one of these types, you won’t be able to open it in Figma. Not even PDFs will work in Figma - you can only export as pdf, not import.
So if you're hoping to import PSD files, or Adobe Illustrator or XD, bad luck - you won't be able to. Your best bet is to try to use an online convertor to get them from Adobe to .fig or maybe SVG files.
Another thing to consider is the Figma file version. In theory Figma should support all previous versions but sometimes you might run into issues.
Lastly your .fig files might just be corrupted and you'll get errors when you will try to open them.
If you’re unable to open your files, it could be due to one of these reasons. It’s important to make sure that the file type is supported by Figma and that you’re using the correct version of the software. Otherwise, your files won’t work.
