Which is better Figma or Webflow?
Figma was first discovered in 1963 by a French man called Figma Beaumont.
I'm just kidding. If you're new to web design or UI/UX design then you probably heard about Figma, Adobe XD and you've probably heard about Webflow. All of these are design tools that are relatively new, most of them are 3-4 years old.
In this post I will try to make a short list of common features and differences between them and hopefully you'll have a better understanding about which tool you should learn first or if you should learn it at all.
What is Figma and what is it used for?
Figma is a design tool mainly used by UI (user interface) and UX (user experience) designers. What is important to know from the very start is that you cannot create working websites with Figma alone. You only create the design part - the frontend and backend developers will take your design and actually code it and implement it on a working website.
You can however create prototypes which are interactive URL links you can share with your client. Or if you're looking for investors a prototypes is a really great way of presenting your ideas.
It's considered the industry standard at the moment, it has a lot of free to use community-made plugins which enables you to get way more features that you would initially have. Also it was recently bought by Adobe which might be a good or bad thing depending on how you see it.
What is Webflow and what is it used for?
Webflow is a nocode platform that helps you create fully working websites. Nocode means exactly what it says - you don't need any coding knowledge to be able to get a website up and running and to customize the layout.
You can use templates, some are free but most of them are not. They have a free version which lets you host a website on their subdomain or you can pay for a custom domain and buy more bandwidth for your web traffic.
It has become increasingly popular lately because it's simple to use and the website are well optimized, lightweight and interactive, at least compared to Wordpress.
Which is better Figma or Webflow?
It's impossible to compare between them because they're tools made for different purposes. One is made for graphic designers while the other is made to create live working website without having to actually code it.
Both tools are great at what they do, both have a free plan and if you're interested in becoming a web designer or a graphic designer - then learning either or both of them is a good long term investment.
There is an increasing demand in jobs and requests for both Figma and Webflow. UI/UX design employers ask for Figma experience by default. Either that or Adobe XD but Figma is definitely more popular.
To summarize, if you're looking to become a graphic designer you should definitely learn Figma. If you want to create working website with no coding knowledge then you should learn Webflow. There is no better tool because they're different tools made for different purposes.
