How to open PSD file in Canva?

If you're used to working in Photoshop and your designs are all PSD you're probably wondering if it's possible to import them in Canva and edit them afterwards.

Well, unfortunately it's not possible to directly upload PSD files in the editor but you can convert the files and upload them afterwards into the editor.

How to open PSD file in Canva?

The easiest way to get PSD files into Canva is to convert them. You have a bunch of options to pick from - you can convert them to PNG, JPG, SVG, PDF and pretty much whatever extension Canva lets you upload.

How do you convert PSD files?

It's simple and free - use tools like convertio. Just upload your file and export it as whatever you wish.
Unfortunately things won't be perfect in every single case - PNGs and JPGs should work just fine but if you're trying to scale sizes and work with vectors and text layers you'll have to convert stuff to either SVG or PDF and sometimes Canva won't recognize the fonts you're trying to port and they'll just be static non editable layers inside the editor.

But for the sake of simplicity we recommend you always convert to PNG and try to almost never work with text straight from the PSD file, add text in the Canva app directly.

On the other hand if you have Photoshop installed and you're able to open the PSD file you can just export SVGs directly from within the app, you won't need any online converter anymore.

Go to File -> Export -> Export As -> SVG.

// Late edit: Ok, so it turns out Canva won't let you upload SVGs exported from Photoshop - files are not compatible which is probably related to the SVG versions being different.

So to summarize this post: If you're looking to open or import PSD files in Canva unfortunately you can't do it directly. You have to convert the PSD files either online or inside the Photoshop app into PNG or PDF or other supported format and afterwards upload it into Canva

Unfortunately the design won't be split in layers and if you're going to work with SVG files you might run into issues with the fonts being different or not scaled properly.
